Edinburgh artist Juliana Capes has exhibited nationally and internationally in a range of contexts, most recently in the 5th European Biennale of Contemporary Art, Nimes, France. Her work was represented at the 2004 Glasgow Art Fair and Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Visual Art 2005, she has received commissions from Emerged Glasgow and most recently was commissioned by Sideshow, Nottingham. She has recently exhibited at the Lamb Gallery, Dundee and Limousine Bull, Aberdeen. Her practice has a strength and energy due in part to a diversity of approach that involves working concurrently with the alchemy of stuff and peculiarity of place. She predominately uses non traditional media, finding inspiration in unexpected objects, places and processes. This richness of methodology conveys very directly an enjoyment in making. Working in this way she is interested in drawing attention to the background of our daily lives, picking out beauty and magic where it is generally goes unnoticed. Conceptually she finds life is loaded with meaning and through human endeavour, objects take on greater significances. |
